Amy Friesen

BSW, RSW

Life can be overwhelming at times—for children, teens, young adults, and the families who support them. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, navigating a major life transition, feeling stuck in difficult emotions, or simply looking for a safe place to talk, I am here to help.

I work primarily with children, adolescents, and young adults, supporting them through challenges such as anxiety, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation, life transitions, friendships and relationships, identity exploration, stress, and personal growth. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive space where clients feel comfortable being themselves and know they don't have to face life's challenges alone.

I believe that healing happens through genuine connection. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I strive to meet each client where they are, helping them build insight, develop practical coping skills, and recognize their own strengths along the way. Therapy with me often includes a balance of meaningful conversation, skill-building, creativity, and a little bit of humour when appropriate.

As your therapist, you can expect me to be:

  • Compassionate, relaxed, and empathetic

  • Approachable, genuine, and down-to-earth

  • Curious about your experiences and unique story

  • Supportive, accepting, and non-judgmental

  • Encouraging and validating throughout your journey

  • Practical and collaborative in helping you reach your goals

hi, I'm Amy!

Education & Professional Background

I am a Registered Social Worker with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW #4767) and hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Booth University College. Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of supporting children, youth, young adults, and families in a variety of settings, including child welfare, school-based counselling, and private practice.

These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the unique challenges young people and families face, while reinforcing my belief that every individual has the capacity for growth, resilience, and healing when provided with the right support.

I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, continuing to expand my knowledge and clinical skills so I can provide thoughtful, evidence-based care to the clients I serve.

I am honoured to walk alongside clients as they navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and create meaningful change in their lives. Whether you're reaching out for yourself or for your child, I look forward to connecting with you.

Growing up can be hard. I believe every young person deserves a space where they feel safe, understood, and supported as they navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and build confidence in who they are.

My Approach

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, whether you're a parent searching for the right fit for your child or a young person trying to navigate life's challenges. My hope is that from the moment you walk through the door, you feel welcomed, accepted, and never judged.

I work with children, teens, and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the everyday struggles that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Adolescence and young adulthood can be complicated seasons of life, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients and families during those moments.

My approach is warm, genuine, and collaborative. I believe therapy doesn't have to feel intimidating or overly clinical. Sometimes our sessions involve creative activities, games, drawing, or hands-on exercises. Other times, they involve meaningful conversations, reflection, and learning new ways to cope with life's challenges. Every client is different, and I enjoy tailoring therapy to fit the unique needs and personality of the person sitting across from me.

Above all, I believe that feeling safe, understood, and connected is the foundation for meaningful change. My goal is to create a space where clients can show up exactly as they are, explore what they're carrying, and discover their own strengths along the way.

More About Me...

Outside of the therapy room, my favourite role is being a wife and mom to two wonderful little boys. Life is busy, often messy, and filled with lots of laughter, snack requests, and adventures. We also share our home with our sweet dog, Luna, who keeps us all on our toes.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, deep into a good book, or soaking up the simple moments that make life meaningful.

Being invited into someone's story is something I never take for granted. It is truly an honour to support children, teens, young adults, and families through both the difficult seasons and the moments of growth, healing, and hope.
