Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers)
How do I know this will work for me?
1
Everyone is different and experience the benefit of counselling at different speeds. However, when you trust your counsellor, and the right techniques and approach are being used, you will likely begin to see improvement and the benefits of counselling. Feeling the results of therapy can take time for some and consistency can be the key to gaining therapeutic alliance with your counsellor, and insight into significant outcomes in your life.
What happens during sessions?
2
When you arrive for your session, we will discuss the reason why you have come to counselling. Your counsellor will listen to you and ask you some background questions that will help us decide on setting some initial goals. Any subsequent sessions will be focused on working on those goals together. We will be discussing any feelings, behaviours and thoughts that continue to be problematic, and talk about ways to cope better, feel better and deal with problems more effectively over the long-term. Your goals will continue to be reviewed and changed as needed over time.
Is my session covered by insurance?
3
At this time, none of our therapists at SCC offer direct billing. However, we do offer invoices post-payment that you can keep for your own records, or use to seek to pursue reimbursement from your insurance company.
Many insurance companies within Canada do recognize our education and designations, but some do not. We always encourage clients to check their specific insurance coverage, as each individual's insurance is unique. We do not take responsibility for insurance coverage, and offer no guarantee that your session will be covered.
